About Me, About Podcasts, About Adventures!

A picnic breakfast

I have made 13 podcasts. I never expected to make that many, and I never expected to have any listeners other than a few and encouraging friends. I guess that’s why I never introduced myself properly when I first became a podcaster. There didn’t seem to be any need to do that. My friends already know me. No explanations were needed.

But 3 months down the track, I suddenly realise there might be some listeners who don’t know much about me. So I have decided to rectify that situation by starting this week’s podcast with a belated introduction of me and my family.

During my podcast, I also tell the story of how the girls and I went to a professional audio studio to record some Rosaries for a local community radio show. I came home with some ideas on what I need to do to make my podcasts sound more professional.

And I explore this thought: is it essential that unschoolers travel the world, or at least their own country, in order to provide enough learning experiences for their children? Or can we find sufficient adventures at home? I chat a little about watching out for adventurous opportunities and relate the story of how Sophie and I had an adventure last Saturday.

PS: I should add that I never dived to the BOTTOM of the lake to look at the map of the bush tracks. (That would have been very adventurous!) Words never come out perfectly when podcasting. The map was on a board BY the lake!

I took the above photos while Sophie and I were having an adventure together. You can find more photos on my Stories of an Unschooling Family Facebook page.

You can find my other podcasts on my podcast page.

And you can find my children’s stories on the pages of my novel, The Angels of Abbey Creek. (Would my book make a good Christmas present?)

  1. It sounds as though it was a nice walk, Sue. I hope you find the waterfall next time. I sometimes look in awe at the unschoolers who do so many different things and travel so much. It would be nice to be able to all of that, too, but I guess we do what we can. 🙂

BTW I hadn't heard of world schoolers. That sounds like fun, too.

    • Vicky,

Yes, it was a nice walk. We went on another walk today in a different area, to see different waterfalls. We didn't get lost this time and made it to the lookout, but the waterfalls weren't as spectacular as they could have been. It hasn't rained properly for a long time and one waterfall wasn't very big. The other wasn't flowing at all. It didn't matter. We still enjoyed the walk.

It was only recently I heard the term 'world schooler'. Some world schoolers podcast about their travels. I imagine they would be very interesting to listen to.

Thank you for listening to my podcast!

    • San,

Now I am giggling! That's a funny image, isn't it? It's just as well no one can see me while listening to my podcast. They might not take me seriously if they could see my equipment!

  2. Oh and I forgot, I bought your book for Benedict as a St Nicholas Day gift, although I can see that I will use it as a read aloud for them both x

    • San,

Thank you so much for buying my book. I hope you all enjoy it. Still grinning… The thought of someone buying a book I have written seems rather remarkable! xx

  3. Today I tried listening to your podcast. And even if you're an interesting person, your Australian is quite charming (I never heard anybody speak Australian before), and I really want to learn more of you and your family, I must admit I'm so not the listening type. My mind and eye starts to wander, and I'm having a hard time picking up the lost thread again. Please write a little more.

    • Uglemor,

You are kind trying to listen to my podcast. I understand about you being a reader and not a listener. I will write you a post! I have an idea for a story. I'll try to find some time over the weekend to write it. Thank you so much for encouraging me to write. It's lovely to know you want to read my posts.

  4. Nice to meet you, Sue 😉

I find you very entertaining AND educational.

I am a homebody too! I never thought I would be but this is what I prefer. My favorite people and my favorite things (books and food) are right here with me. Plus we can do "world schooling" through our reading. It is more affordable. But, OH!! The places we go!! 🙂

    Huge hug! <3

    • Virginia Sue,

You are a homebody too? You are a kindred spirit! I also love world schooling through books. Watching Youtube videos and DVDs is good too. I get to travel and still sleep in my own bed at night!

I'm sending a huge hug back. Thank you so much for listening and for your kind words. xxx
